According to folklore, you can predict how bad winter will be by observing Woolly Bear Caterpillars. If the caterpillar sports a narrow brown stripe, and broad black stripes on the front and the back, then winter will be bad. If the caterpillar has a broad brown stripe, winter will be mild. Since this Woolly Bear Caterpillar lacks black, we should be in for a great winter! Research, unfortunately, has not documented the folklore. Apparently the brown stripe becomes narrower with age (
