March Bird Banding

Bird banding in March, with cold weather and snow, got off to a slow start.  As I write, at least four inches of snow still cover our north-facing backyard forest.

Red-bellied Woodpecker 1
Downy Woodpecker 3
Black-capped Chickadee 9
Dark-eyed Junco 12

After last year's record chickadee banding, who would have thought nine would remain unbanded?  An additional two chickadees were already ringed.  One was banded on 8 July 2010 and recaptured on 21 March 2011; the other banded on 8 September 2010, recaptured on 25 March 2011.
