Speaking of preening and feather care, on 18 January 2022 at the Nisqually national wildlife refuge, Erika and I encountered a fluffed up Golden-crowned Sparrow. The bird looked almost comical, sort of an avian Jabba the Hutt. The sparrow ignored us and returned to feather care.
