Finally, a photo of a Red-bellied Woodpecker at our feeder, 30 January 2017. By her gray crown, we know this woodpecker is a female. I thought about cropping the photo so that all you see is the back, but this portrait is sort of what I wanted. Almost Harper-esque.
I started the year hoping to capture a bird for every day. But the weather has been cold and/or cloudy. Furthermore, the avian diversity at the feeder in January is not great. Finally, although common, the Red-bellied seems to be more wary than the other suet-eaters. She does not stay at the feeder for long, and quickly flies when I run for my camera.
